The Joe Beninati Quartet is Eric Napier on Guitar, Asher Barerras on Upright bass, Joe Beninati on drums and Chas Lester on Vocal. This quartet plays vocal based jazz standards at pubs, restaurants and events all throughout southern Maine. They have a style that runs the entire gamut from swing to latin to funk.
Eric grew up in Tampa, FL. He got his BA in music at New College in Florida. His influences are Grant Green, Bill Frisell, Kenny Burrell and John Scofield.
Asher grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and has enjoyed playing and studying music for over 25 years. He started on the violin and studied many of the string and percussion instruments including: bass, cello, guitar, piano, and drums. He also studied music and bass at the Conservatori de Liceu in Barcelona, Spain, under professor Horacio Fumero from 2008-2009. Asher received his bachelor’s degree in jazz studies, training in music and bass performance under professor Lynn Seaton and Jeff Bradetich at the University of North Texas, cum laude 2010. He has been a professional traveling musician, teacher, and composer for close to 17 years. After living in New York City he relocated to Cundy’s Harbor, Maine.
Chas Lester has been a jazz vocalist in the southern Maine area for close to fifteen years. He can be seen regularly with LQH, The Fogcutters, The Electric Heart and others. He’s also an accomplished drummer and vocal percussionist.
Joe was born and raised in Westchester NY, right outside of New York City. He went to SUNY Purchase and got his BS in Liberal Arts but was surrounded by music and musicians the whole time there. He decided to go back to school a few years later to study music at Lehman College in the Bronx. This experience and playing around NYC with bands for 15 years helped him to hone in his skills on the drum set. His influences are Max Roach, Elvin Jones, Matt Chamberlain, Jimmy Chamberlin, Questlove, Chris Dave and many more.
